UK undergaduates are invited to a "Systems Biology taster afternoon" at the University of Nottingham on Wednesday 24 March 2010, organised by SIGNET (the UK Cell Signalling Network). SIGNET will cover expenses for travel within the UK (mileage or standard class rail fares and subsistence, up to £100), and will arrange and pay for one night's accommodation if necessary.
The session is designed to increase awareness of "Systems Biology" within the UK undergraduate community. Systems Biology is a new approach to studying animals, plants and microbes that combines theory, computer modelling and experiments. The afternoon will include presentations on the mathematical and computational modelling of brain and heart dynamics, hands on experience of computer simulations, and opportunities to meet active researchers in the field. The presentations and computer labs will not require specialist expertise and hence will be accessible to undergraduates from across the spectrum of sciences and mathematics.
To register, email Hilary Lonsdale (Hilary.Lonsdale@nottingham.ac.uk) with the following information:
We can accommodate a maximum of 40 participants, so please register soon. We look forward to welcoming you to Nottingham.
